Where Are They Now? The Fire Theft

This is a little feature I'm doing where I talk about a band that I really like(d) and wonder what they're up to and when they're going to get a new record out. This time I'm talking about The Fire Theft, which is a continution of the band which is forever connected with the term "emo", Sunny Day Real Estate. The Fire Theft's name is derived from the idea of "boldly attempting to snatch flames from rock gods" so as you can imagine, there's many prog rock and classic rock influences in their music. They released their self-titled debut in 2003 and it was very well received, but after a short tour very little was heard of them.

Last Summer, Jeremy Enigk (the lead singer) sent a message to his fans that he was working on a solo album (which would follow up his 1996 solo release,"Return of the Frog Queen"). New news about this album is just coming in recently. He has said that there are no concrete plans for The Fire Theft as of now. If it takes as long to follow up on The Fire Theft as it did to follow up Jeremy's solo career though, we'll probably have a long wait ahead of us. Here's a couple sample tracks:

MP3 Heaven
MP3 It's Over

Glad to see you posting on the Fire Theft. Even though they are my third favorite musical project from Jeremy Enigk (behind SDRE and his own solo work), there are still a great many things to love about their record. Especially
"Heaven". That song blows me away every single time.

I'm working on an Enigk post for next week, actually. I'll be sure and link over to this!

Cheers,
Chad
