Margot & the Nuclear So & So's

Margot is the name of character in one of my favorite movies, this being Wes Anderson's Royal Tenebaums. Gwyneth Paltrow's character now shares her moniker with the Indiana indie band, Margot & the Nuclear So & So's, that has been getting good press from My Old Kentucky Blog among others recently. I decided to check them out and am very impressed. Some have compared them rightly to Nada Surf. If you add 5 people to Nada Surf's lineup, throw in some cello and trumpets, and and mix in some doses of folk and alt-country you might be getting there. Here's a few songs to give you a clearer picture.

MP3 Skeleton Key
MP3 Quiet As A Mouse
MP3 Vampires in Blue Dresses

The opening to the song, Quiet As A Mouse, is almost note-to-note the same as Youth Group's cover of Forever Young. It's actually kindof eerie how close it is...

MP3 Youth Group - Forever Young

Another band with a Wes Anderson-inspired name is Kite Flying Society, but everytime I'm going to talk about them about three other blogs do. So go to Gorilla vs. Bear, You Ain't No Picasso, and Cable and Tweed to learn about them and get some of their music.
